I have about 1500 slides that I would like to put on disk. Is there a way to do this without having to spend a year at the scanner?
Go to search at the top of this home page and put in "converting slides to cd" and you will find who and how to do it....
Thanks, I am still finding my way around here.
find somebody to do it for you, with that there is a place in my home town that does it , does slides, vhs, 8 mm, hi8, 16mm, think everything to dvd, but i know it can get expensive if you want to go that route. sure you could look online to see if there is anyplace local to you and see what they charge.

Welcome to UHH. Good luck with your project.
There are places that provide that service.
I saw a focusing rail/bellows and slide holder on ebay recently, that went fairly reasonable, considering.
That device is used for the thing you are asking about.
I digitized about 3,000 slides using an old dental x ray viewbox, and a macro lens. I'm sure you could probably use extension tubes also. Put the camera on a tripod , focus on a slide which is on the view box, fill the frame, use a cable release. Put the next slide where the first one was and repeat.

I had 1,000 done at one time and about 250 done at another. I brought them to a local camera store. It took them a few weeks, but the results were excellent. I could have "spent a year" scanning each one, but they produced better results than I could have done. They must have cleaned them, and the colors and focus are perfect.
Check the prices for CD and DVD because my guy charged more for a DVD, but they all fit onto one disc, rather than a bunch. It cost about 42 cents per slide, but I saved a year of my life, and I didn't wear out a scanner and have to buy a new one.
Whatever you decide to do, make several copies of the discs when you get the slides transferred. It's a great way to look at old pics.
Try
www.1000memories.scancafe.comHaven't used them but really tempted to give them a try. They sure would save me tons of time and aggravation with years of old film photos and slides I would like to save for the kids. Has anyone used their services?
I have Walmart scan my slides to a CD and they have done a good job especially with old dirty slides. You can bring in a tray and they will take it from there. $.29 a slide

Speaking of slides (and digital), can it be done the other way? By that I mean could I have pictures that I've taken with a digital camera and instead of having them printed on a computer or sending the files to Walgreen's (or wherever) have them made into slides, or are slides going (or have gone) the way of Beta-max and 8-tracks?
