Beale Street Cuties

This is my first post to the Hog. My wife and I had just left one of the music clubs on Beale St. in Memphis and were enjoying the festive atmosphere. These young ladies had just asked me to take their picture with one of their cell phones. After doing so, in typical fashion of today's times, they stopped in the middle of the street and took their selfie.

Well, you can't go wrong with a trio of beauties. This is a fun, playful intimate moment between girlfriends. The background provides context without competing with the girls. Good DOF choice.

Very nice shot. Great smiles. What were you using for lighting?

The area is well lit. I put a wrist strap on a Canon T2i and use either a EF-S 24mm 2.8 pancake lens or a 1.8 nifty fifty. It makes a good street camera and doesn't attract too much attention. In this shot I used the 50mm at 3200 ISO which is about as high as I can go without getting too noisy.

would they have been around 20 feet away from you?

I like the depth of field on this and i think it would have been around 5 feet at f2.8 if I got the subject distance right.

I can't remember, it was all just spontaneous. Split second framing thru the viewfinder when opportunity presented itself.

I was hoping to confirm this

Object height on image sensor (mm)/ focal length = Real Object height / Distance to Object.

which I figured the girls are around 4 foot actual height what is shown on the frame roughly 60% of the frame height so about 10mm with aps-c being about 16mm so

10mm/ 50mm = 0.2 so rearranging the equation gives 4 foot / 0.2 = 20 feet. with the aperture being f2.8 then dof is about 5 feet at that distance and looks great.
