My vote is Virginia Rail.
Don't have a handy photo, but believe you have a Clapper Rail
Cornell would be the place for the "for sure" identification they are very good and usually quick

It is a Virginia Rail. The size of the bird, the color and size of the bill, and the leg color are all field marks of a Virginia Rail, not a Clapper Rail. Clapper Rails in Arizona are only found around the lower Colorado River.
