His playing can't be up to much. He's even got the statue looking disapproving :) .

OK. Peter,
Thanks a whole bunch!
The moment this image came to my sight...coffee blew out m'nose!

That's hill-damn-larious !

By-the-bye...where was this taken?. In your homeland? The statue looks amazingly like George Washington!

Yes, it's George. If you look at the statue's base at full magnification you can read the inscription.

To me the picture (and it is a wonderful picture) is by turns hilarious and disturbing. One of the many reasons I don't do "street" is that I would feel intrusive. This person makes me sad. He (?) has one lonely incisor in his upper jaw. Knowing absolutely nothing about him/her my first reaction is actually sadness. He/she may be perfectly happy, but I tend to doubt it.

You stored the original!! Please I would be traumatized even more if I saw this lovely creature larger... OMG, just thought like in Clock Work Orange being strapped in a chair eyes taped open and this image of free speech full size before me... with trash hard rock music blasting at 400 W!!

My day has been destroyed!! Curses on you!

This was taken outside the national Gallery in Trafalgar Square, London. It is indeed George Washington. It is a replica of Jean Antoine Houdon's marble statue in Richmond, Virginia, and was given to the UK in 1921 by the 'Commonwealth of Virginia.' Washington apparently said, "I will never set foot in London again!" so dirt was brought from Virginia and that's what he's standing on. Sorry about the coffee.

Yeah I have the dual reaction as well. But whether he is happy or not who can tell. Certainly the tooth looks a tad bizarre but if you zoom into the legs or if you are particularly brave, his feet, it is pretty obvious that this is a guy who has had some major health issues. It would be tempting to go with the stereotypical view and attribute his health issues to his lifestyle but that would probably say more about my middle class world view than about him. But in the end, even though it may not be P.C. you have to admit that he does weird really well. But equally I say good on him for being out there doing his own thing.

Glad you liked the pic.

Soon as I clapped eyes on this picture Peter this sprung into my head

Now Lucy looks sweet 'cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule it's a real mean team
But we can love oh yes we can love
And my brother's back at home with his Beatles and his Stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
What a drag too many snags
Now I've drunk a lot of wine and I'm feeling fine
Got to race some cat to bed
Oh is there concrete all around
Or is it in my head

The drag queen reminded me of Ian Hunter with long curly hair and big shades. Lead singer with Mott the Hoople who made the Bowie song All the Young Dudes into an anthem for Glam rock as well as a Gay anthem.
Wonderful photo even better memories.
For anyone out there who does not know or remember Ian Hunter download a song by him called Boy. Man it will make your toenails curl.

It would be wonderful to say that his playing was outstanding and totally transcended his somewhat unusual appearance, but ..... naaaa!!! He could belt out a tune and knew a couple of chords but that was about all. Sadly the realism of life can be quite cruel.

Mott the Hoople!! Haven't thought about them for years. Great band though much underrated and I agree great memories though a little blurred like many of my memories of the time. Anyone who remembers the seventies wasn't really there, or so I am given to believe.

Glad you liked the pic.

And if you are feeling particularly masochistic zoom in on the feet. Happy nightmares.

Anyone who remembers the seventies didn't fry enough brain cells in the sixties. If you emerged from the sixties without at least a modicum of neurological damage, you just weren't trying hard enough  :-D .
