Nicely composed and technically well done Mr. Spad. The matted frame is just taking something away for me, personal of course.

Now that, Billy, I consider a really well-done, nicely composed informal, environmental portrait....and technically top-notch!

Ephraim looks to be a most affable sort of fellow...an ex-neighbor I'd think you'd miss.

First of your framing jobs I'm not crazy about. It's running competition with the very nice photo, not enhancing it.

Your right my friend this is indeed a lousy frame! A moment of madness I succumb to every once in a while. Gonna change my meds to the lightweight frame variety!
Hope all is well with you and please check on me regularly to keep the mad moments firmly under control.

Yeah agree, not mad on the frame but it is still very effective in adding depth, so its a tweek not a get-rid-of. I really like the processing on this one, colours subdued but the relaxed pose gives him real presence. Be interested on a quick run through on your PP work flow on this one, he has the feel of a very subdued and controlled HDR, but not the background. I like it, and he looks like a cool guy.

He was a cool guy Peter fear he may have passed on now. Had a chest problem and only money for very rudimentary medicines. Was unable to talk last time I saw him and could hardly walk. Looked after his wife, who died a few years back, for 15 years after she had a stroke.

Anyway my man one cannot get much past you huh. Single image converted into 3 one under one over and HDR one for Ephram and very very gentle HDR for the background and combined with layer masking.
Thought it would be spotted earlier but not much HDR done nowadays it seems so folks forget about it.

As for framing/matting...
I get the impression that you are really into fabric textured matting. I suggest...quite humbly , of course... that you consider matte fabric containing detail of weave of knapp no larger than any significant detail in your image. Otherwise, my friend, the matte distracts from the image! (As it most certainly does in the present example)
