Okay Hedgehoggers, I am looking for some valuable insight as to which printer is the better of the two.
A Epson Stylus Pro R2880 or A Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II?
Mainly will be used for home use, and some enlargements.
Thank-you
Mikey
Your Epson's are the better printers.
I agree. Canons printers seem to be problematic after some useage and lower resolution quality that the Epsons.
Both are better quality than the HP's.

I had purchased the canon pixma Pro 9000 mark 11, 2 months back and the photos are awesome. I've print out my son's racing photos to 13x19 size on metallic photo paper and he receives more compliments on them.

I recommend you don't bother with a printer for photos. If you have a local Costco that's the best option. It is simple to send them from your PC and usually you can pick them up in an hour. The prints are cheaper than the paper, and much less than buying a printer for that purpose and ink, and better than you can make with a home printer.

The only drawback to Costco is that you don't really get much in the way of paper options, but the quality is much better than you'd expect for the price and as MtnMan sais, a lot cheaper. Last time I had a cutom print made was a year ago. There was very little difference in quality betwen that and the Costco print for 1/8th the cost...and it was faster..and the custom lab didn't sell hot dogs or
Polish sausage and a drink for $1.50 with free refills.
Those suggesting Costco here have too much integrity for me to consider differing with.
That being said, I've been using the Canon Pro9000 for almost 5yrs. and am nothing buy happy. If this one ever dies, I'm going to look at Epson, but there's no sign of that happening so far!
It's just the way I'm made, I've always had to "do it all myself". I've always had (until recently) a darkroom, and processed all my black & white, E-6 color slides, C-41, Cibachrome, everything but K-14. Call me a nut! I just can't let someone else in my loop.
As I have posted before, sometimes I wish we had a 'like' button to click. I would use one here.
LIKE.

What paper do you get the best results with? I just bought this printer and can not seem to get the glossy prints I get from my old Epson R1800. I also have done my own printing. I like the control of my own work. Thanks
I'd go with the Espon. I've owned both brands. Canon makes a great camera, but their printers seem to fail. Epsons just keep chugging along, ink is easy to get and they have excellent papers.
I use an Epson(s) have not had any problems with them.

If I made a lot of prints I would probably do the same as you. The thing is, I don't need to print that much. I too, like to have my hands on the whole process, but have had too many problems with dried out ink, clogged nozzles, etc. It just isn't worth the hassle- for me. For others like you, I can totally understand. I compared the Costco print to the lab print (on an Epson) I had done and just there wasn't a lot of difference. As Randymoe says, your answer gets a "Like" from me as well.
I own Canon 9500. It was a snap to set up and has performed flawlessly. Easy to use and with 10 cartridges great results. Came close to buying the 9000 but at the time the 9500 was only a lithe more. As an aside Hunt's Photo (no affiliation) seems to have great prices. if interested I would call them as they may do even better if you talk to them. All that said like Nikon and Canon you will get fine results with either brand at comparable levels.
Now the fun part. Currently at B&H
Epson.............$ 449
Canon 9000... $ 214
Canon 9500... $ 419
I believe that for $ 30 less and with two more ink cartridges than the the Epson the Canon 9500 deserves a very long, very hard look
