When I had trouble figuring out what was going on with my D750, I did the two-button reset. After shooting some pictures a few days later, I was surprised that Eye-Fi didn't deliver them to my Raw folder. Looking around, I found them in the regular folder, as JPEG Normal, Nikon's default setting.

So, after doing a reset, be sure to go back and make whatever changes you want. I almost never do a reset, so it hadn't occurred to me.

And note reset does not reset everything. I don't think they provide a list of what it doesn't do.

Actually, they do. In the manual is a chart that tells what items are reset under the two button reset. However, it takes the camera back to the out of the box settings.

Remember that some of the techs at Nikon USA are taking the easiest way out of a problem. As with any company with on call support, they have varying levels of expertise from far less than your knowledge to very good. If you find a tech that seems to be exceptional, write down his or her name and ask for them any time you call. If they are not available ask that they call you back when available. This is two fold because the techs are graded on their abilities and knowledge and people that get requested are highly prized by Nikon and graded higher than the average call taker. Generally, the requested tech will attempt to call you back at the beginning of the next shift if they are unavailable when you ask for them or they can't get back to you before the end of their current shift. Also, remember that all of NikonUSA techs are located on the east coast ( in the eastern time zone) but the shifts are such that they will be available until 5 PM Pacific time. And they will probably not call back after 7 PM EST. (They used to be open until midnight EST but calls seemed to quit about 9pm so they shortened the hours.)

Thanks good advice. I have thought of it but am too lazy but maybe I have paid the price because I was lazy.

Well, I tried to contribute. Reset per manual is great. But I also found that Nikon 7100 from the store did reset slightly different than my Nik 7100.

Believe me , the easiest it to buy a small SD and keep only your settings there . In your computer , you can have stored original factory settings as well.

The only trick is, the SD card must have the name camera will recognize ....so you have to rename your stored files to the one and only file # for the camera to read.

Sorry but that is the opposite of the list I mentioned.

The list of what isn't reset can be most valuable if you are trying to fix something. E.g. Dosen't reset anything on Custom settings...I think.

I keep a check list of the settings I use. Some are changed from session to session. So, after I format the memory card, I go back and check all my settings. Then, I put the camera away for the day. Keeping a "starting" check list comes in handy.

Jerry, the two button reset completely resets the camera to the out of the box settings. Any new or different settings (including back button focusing) will have to be redone (hopefully not resetting the settings that caused you to want to do a reset in the first place). While the two button reset should be a "last resort", it is often the easiest way to start from scratch again.

No, I just had a problem with my Nikon D7200; it wouldn't go into it's Bracketing Mode, when I pressed the Bracketing button on it's body. I called Nikon Tech Support, and they had me do a Two Button Reset...much to my chagrin! It resetted many of it's most basic settings, such as: turned off auto ISO, changed my ISO speed, changed my focus point from center point to automatic, raw to jpeg, and from continuous focus to single focus; several other things of that nature.
But it did not change my back button auto focus settings, it left them alone...thank you! Yet, I felt the need to scroll through ALL of the many menu pages to verify that my many camera settings were still in place...as there were a few, here and there, that had been changed!
Not very many really. They are all, actually listed in the owner's manual. I just chose to do it the hard way! I like going through it's menus...I don't like the fact that the bracketing locked up on me in the first place...and was glad that the two button reset resolved the problem so easily!
