I have opportunity to buy one with less than 7500 actuation for four hundred and fifty dollars. My quandary is that I have been thinking about a full frame but this sounds like to good a deal to pass up. The gentleman is local and retired as I am and he wanting a full frame also. We both agree that we do not need another body but try to justify by why not at our age. I do like to shoot wild life and birds some family and friends as well. I have three capable bodies already the newest being 60d. Your thoughts appreciated.

If you want a full frame, don't waste your money. On the other hand, they have been selling for a bit more on ebay, so you could buy it and sell it and come out ahead.

I'll take a shot. Why a full frame? Unless you want to print over 16X24 or drastically crop, a crop sensor will do just fine. The 7d is still a great camera ( I use one). Will the seller take less than 450? BTW at 7500 clicks that camera still aint broken in yet. What kind of use did the camera have, and does it look very clean? I know I just asked questions. It's only a decision that you can make.

He said it was used mainly to take pics of the grand kids. It is like new with box, manuals, and extra battery and a charger. It sounds like to good a deal to pass up but I suppose it is more G.A.S. than needs. Some times I do not make sense I know. I have three bodies the newest being a 60D. The pics I posted today were taken with an xsi which I use probably as much as the 60D//
Thanks to both you and Jerry for opinions.

I think only you can make that decision but if it will help any when I bought a new 7D right after it was released I already had 13 cameras.

Do you feel owning the 7D will noticeably improve your photography? If yes, then maybe get it. If no, then absolutely don't get it.

I don't not think you will be gaining much from the 60D to the 7D. The image quality is essentially the same- the same 18MP sensor and simliar ISO.

The 7D has a more rugged build and 19 cross type focus points where the 60D has only 9. If action photography is what you are doing, the 7D will be a better choice. The 7D uses CF memory and the 60D uses SD memory.

I probably would not upgrade from the 60D to the 7D.

The 60D and original 7D share the same sensor and processor. You'd really just be buying the 60D over again in a more rugged package.

With the 1.6 crop factor and super fast auto focus the Canon 7d is an excellent wildlife and bird camera (that's what I use mine for) and for that sort of money it is a steal. You won't be disappointed.

BTW I also shoot a Canon 6D full frame and whilst it is an awesome camera the 7D is my go to camera for wildlife, birds and sports because I get way more keepers than I do with the 6D.

I have the 7D and have been using it for years. I work year round doing "picture day" for youth sports clubs. It is one of Canons best cameras for the money. It meets all of my commercial needs. Certainly it would be a lot of camera for just shooting the grand kids.

Thanks ever one for their input. I am going to pull the trigger in the morning if ever thing goes as planned. I can not justify the Mark II at this time and at my age I believe this will out last me probably, but I thought that when I bought the 60d about two and half years ago.

Go for it, the 7D is a great camera, you will like it. Keep saving your money as the 6D's are becoming less expensive and they also are great cameras. They serve different purposes you will not regret having both bodies.

Go for it, you can always sell it for about the same price.
