Disc Cleanup Utilities

I generally don't like disk cleaning utilities because after they run, I'm missing settings, and I have to sign in again at sites. Yesterday, I ran Avira Disc Speedup, and today I see that all the tabs I was saving in Chrome are gone. I guess I'll find out later what else is missing. Yes, I was very careful about what was being deleted - but not careful enough.

How often do you disc clean, Jerry? And is it really necessary? When I use one of those utilities, I really do not see any speed up in my computer performance. I usually use Ccleaner.

Exactly. They say there are several thousand errors in the registry, bad links, leftover files, etc. I let it run, and it claims to have freed up 6GB of disc space. I doubt that they're worth the trouble. I don't run them very often, but sometimes, they just pop up and say there's cleaning to be done. Yesterday, it was Avira that wanted to clean.

I use CCleaner too perhaps every couple of weeks on an old Toshiba computer running Vista Basic that my wife uses mostly for e-mail and playing Solitaire. I use it on my newer, faster computer with a lot more memory too, about every other month.

Been using it for about eight or nine years and haven't had a problem.

You should take a suggestion from a former high government official: clean it "with a cloth or something".

Doctor, It hurts when I do this! How do I stop the pain?

Doctor: Don't do that.

Based on their performance, I suspect most government officials are high.

I use Advanced System Car Pro and it does keep the PC running very well. You can find it on www.iobit.com

Had an XP machine that I thought had hard drive problems because it was running so slow. Found this and when it was done cleaning it the PC ran like new. Have installed it on the other two PCs and it keeps them running like new.

This software is also rated as one of the top ones in it's class.
Their license covers 3 PCs.

Yes, I have that, too, and I find it annoying with its pop-ups telling to do things - like buy the advanced version.

Didn't we have this discussion very recently? My two cents worth is that Glary Utilities, Kerish Docter and Malware Bytes are effective tools that have never donew me wrong whereas cc cleaner has done a number on me. I find Malware Bytes superior to Advanced System Care but the latter is a good utility. PC decrapifier is another very useful utility. I tend to do some risky browsing ewven though I know better and these utilities have kewpt me out of deep trouble. Once when I was concerned about the huge number of files that Malware Bytes was proposing to delete, I emailed their customer service (never could find a way to call them) they took the time to recommend some other free specialized utilities to run before using their program. That's what I call service!
