It has come to my attention that in February 2016,Goggle has killed Picasa. It would be a grave injustice to many as it is used for PP without a steep learning curve. I have been using it for over a decade and am pleased with its rapidity and organizing features. I cannot fathom the possible termination . Appreciate any information. Thank You

When was the last time you ran a spreadsheet in Lotus 1-2-3? Software comes and goes, and many people mourn the loss. They abandoned it because Google's "Photos" is supposedly better than Picasa.
My under standing is that if you have already down loaded you can use still use it, but it will not be supported. I am not sure about the storage. It belongs to Google and they are supposed to come out with another program. The camera that you have should have a program that is easy to use for some PP. I use Canon's program for most of my PP. Picasa was not bad for organizing but I never cared for it PP. There is several more programs that are not bad that are free. Just google free photo soft ware.
This a link that explains what is coming up.

According to what I have read, Picasa will not be removed. So we users can still use it if we want. However I am using its loss as a reason to learn GIMP. Much more of a learning curve than Picasa, but everyone I have communicated with says it is worth it in the long run.
You can still use the editor as long as it doesn't crash or become incompatible if you upgrade your operating system.
Picasa platform will disappear in May and already replaced with Google Photos.
Presumably the result of Google buying Nik software, leading also to the demise of Nikon View NX and the subsequent launch of Nikon NX-d and NX-I.

Thank you all for your replies. I still cannot fathom the reason for termination. I will use it till it crashes one day. I guess I should start to learn Photoshop Elements 14 and relearn Lightroom. Thanks again, and my condolences to all the other Picasa users.
You can switch to google photo and continue I believe. I installed it last week and in the process of transferring over as I type this. I will give it a try and see if it has the features that I used in Picasa. I under stand why they are changing even if it is an inconvenience.

Can you keep us posted as you try out the new program.
As strictly a picassa user I am interested as to how the new will compare.
I certainly will but so far Picasa is my go to PP. Picasa users UNITE and we will fight.
Will Picasso photos be converted to the new Google format?
Does it cost to switch to Google Photo?
Google Photos is an excellent method of storing, organising and editing your photographs,
I have been using it from the day it was launched, and it's free to use, the only stipulation is you are limited to a maximum of 16mb size for your photos, this is ample for most people !!
