"A not so smart person keeps talking until they convince themselves and others they are right" I'm not sure this is word for word but it was said I think about a month ago by a politician.

A google search of that phrase might provide an answer.

If it does'nt describe a politician it sure isn't far wrong. the sad thing is too many of us listen and start believing.

I've searched Google and Ask Jeevers. Can't find it.
SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING WILL ROGERS OR MARK TWAIN WOULD SAY.

No, it was John Wendel Johnson from Itasca, TX
What I find appalling is the bad grammar! "A person" becomes "they" out of nowhere? Verbs and subjects are supposed to agree in number in English. Everywhere now people, even supposedly educated news anchors, seem to be so fearful of being considered politically incorrect, they willingly acquiesce to linguistic laziness. Perhaps it's because "he or she" is so much harder to say than "they".

Yes, that is very annoying. The rule has always been to use "he," unless you know the statement refers to a female. I don't see how anyone can take offense at that. It also sounds ridiculous using "they" and "them" and "their" in cases where you are talking about one person.
Another irritation is the overuse of the word "I." People are afraid to say something like, "He gave the information to Paul and me."
As for the writing on this forum, I don't see the need for pointing out mistakes in writing. People are sitting somewhere, chatting with friends. When I speak to people in person, I don't point out their grammar mistakes, and they don't point out mine.
