While on a cruise, my wife bought some vanilla in Mexico. For disembarkation in the USA, she put the bottles in her suitcase. When we got home to Canada, she found the bottles missing.
Does anyone know why the bottles might be missing? Is it illegal to bring back vanilla?
At the beginning of our trip, she realized that her suitcase had been searched before getting onto the ship, but nothing was missing.
If it was over 4oz, that is why they would take it. At least that was the rule the last time I flew a few years back.

Even if it was in the suitcase (that we don't see from check-in to check-out) and not the carry on?
Thank you for this information. I think I understand now.
I had my suitcase searched only once and yes, there were pieces of clothing missing.
It was the first and has been the last time I pack my trpod with my luggage.

It isn't bad enough that they steal items from our luggage, but the amount of 'unclaimed' (read: LOST) is enough that there is a huge warehouse business in Alabama that sells all the stuff we've left 'unclaimed'. It just boggles the brain that the airlines can lose OUR property entrusted to THEM, that we are now paying extra for, manages to lose it after we've put our IDs inside and out, plus the airlines' tags.
