Noto, Sicily

I captured this photo of a street in Noto, Sicily in 2004 with a Canon G5. This was before I got serious about learning more about photography, and taking creative control of my shots. I knew nothing about architectural or street photography at that time. (In fact, that is still true, though I have recently become interested in the genre and would like to see what I can do with it.)
I have always liked this photo. Partly, of course, because it is an image captured during a memorable trip. But also, I just love the look and feel. I like the traditional balconies, the quiet moment in an urban atmosphere, and the sense of wonderment about what lies beyond the immediate view.

I have to say I've noticed that this post have very few views. I imagine that is true for other posts in this section too. That's a strong disincentive to post here, as opposed to the Main section. To me it's weird that on UHH, one has to subscribe to a section in order for it to appear.

The nice detail is in the download. I don't know what the road markings are for but they do add to the scene.

I chuckled when I read your question because I am not skilled in PP. I have LR5 and do some basic editing. I don't have Photoshop, and to me masks are Halloween things, LOL. Having said that, that is the kind of PP that I personally don't like. One thing to make adjustments to improve the photo technically, but IMHO quite another to alter reality by putting in things that weren't there. Though there might have been blue sky, and that is something I could try to bring out. Clouds would be fiction though. I don't mean to be critical of people who do that. It's a personal choice.

I like the possibilities here .. waiting for the person to get closer would have been ideal in my opinion. My eyes want something to grab on to .. a payoff .. and expresion of a person coming down this amazing alleyway.

Good thought. Something I'll keep in mind as I attempt to get into this genre. Not something I had any clue about back in 2004 with my G5, LOL...Thanks for commenting.
