When I updated to the CC version of Photoshop and Lightroom, I got a desktop icon called Adobe Creative Cloud. No separate icon for LR. To get to LR, I have to click the Creative Cloud icon, and then get a page where I can choose from Home, Apps, Assets, Stock, or Community. I then click on Apps. This takes me to a page where I have PS and LR icons. When I click on LR, the programvery slowlyappears.
Unless, that is, when there is an up-date. Then I cannot get in until I have run the update, which takes a very long time. I have not timed it, but it seems like it takes 20 minutes to half an hour.
My questions are these:
Is there any way to get an LR icon directly on my desktop so that I can get there quicker?
Is there any way to get to LR immediately and save the update for later?
I would appreciate any advice you Hoggers might supply.

right click on the app and add it to your desktop
You can also right-click on the app in the taskbar while it's running and choose to "Pin this program to taskbar".

Yup, you can create your own shortcut icon, including your own preferred icon image if you'd like. Just google creating short cuts, etc.

To get an Icon for Lightroom onto your desktop, (I'm presuming Windows is your system).simply open All Apps, then go to your AdobeLightroom Entry, click on it and drag it out to your desktop. Bingo you now have an icon, and your original entry in the All Apps menu remains in place.
Hope this helps.
