Strangeness in a Street shot...

Yesterday I took my camera to have coffee with me at the deli in the local Alaska Commercial store. I do this fairly often, as it is both photographically and socially productive. This time was more strange that usual. And this is part of the story... but individual pictures don't tell stories! Stories happen over time, as things change, and it takes at least two pictures to show history. This time it takes four.

There has been a nice young lady working in the Deli area for perhaps a month now. I'd never seen her before and had not talked with her only because it just hadn't been convenient. She was cleaning the coffee dispenser area when I was pouring a Large Coffee. So she can see my camera in the shopping cart, and says "That's a nice camera!" I told her it sure was a fun camera. She said she has a cousin with one just like that, and it sure takes good pictures.

Well, goodness, if that isn't an invitation if I ever heard one! So I picked up the camera and shot off a dozen or so. She was delighted. But alas, I told her the truth that I don't like posed pictures! I said I was going to go pay for my coffee and come back to sit and drink it, and I was going to "sneak up" on her and get some unposed shots. She clearly liked the idea. But that was when the fun started too.

Here's the posed shot. Not really Street at all, but I'm going to give her a print.

I came back and did get a few that are more candid, like these,

And about that time a young fellow I always enjoy talking to showed up. He is 14 or 15 now, and it turns out this young lady is his cousin. At that point our conversations got much much more lively and friendlier, centered more on family, and watching these two interact was an absolute delight.

From that came the next picture. I would not offhand look at that and think it was either candid or Street, but it is both! These two were totally oblivious at this point to my presence. I'm 5 feet from them and they are all alone. I got the impression she may have played a major roll in taking care of him when he was very small, because she was acting much like a doting mother.

I'm really happy with the entire series, and there are many others just like these 4.

Okay, this is scene 1; awaiting the next scenes. Note the plural.

Which scenes would you like to see?

Another one from yesterday that turned out nice is a shot of a cashier that I've been plotting how to snap, and not being successful, for months. Yesterday turned out perfect, or close enough to it for me.
But that's a different thread too.

But, I think the next one I'll post is an interesting display of communications skills. It'll take a bit, but it's coming.
