I enjoyed Picasa as it's easy to use, sure it's a bit hash on editing compared to others but for quick jobs its fine and user friendly. Does it mean it will be eventually close?
Does Google want to rope people in to Google Photos? I certainly don't want to upload my folders to them.
All I can say (excuse my French) is Bastards.

I also use Picasa and love the ease of it, but just yesterday after reading this, I transferred all my photos to PSE13 just to be safe. I have no idea how to use it, it will take time. Today I was on Picasa and all of a sudden they started compressing my photos and most of them disappeared!!

I googled what to do and they said check the recycle bin.... and here were hundreds of photos in there!! Now I don't know what's going on!!!

That to me borders on, or actually passes the border, of criminal activity. To trespass into someone's computer and start mucking with the files should be legally punishable.

I agree.... thank goodness I back everything up and just transferred all my photos over to Elements. From what I read on that one web site, I'm not alone!

You can keep Picasa if you have it. They will not upgrade or support it in the future.

I would be much more worried about a virus than that Google bothered to invade your computer.

Are your photos on your hard drive? If yes, you can continue to use the desktop editor, same as always. The only issue will be if your computer or the software crashes; you won't be able to reinstall Picasa.

I just did a virus scan and no virus... I found my photos in the trash bin and retrieved them all and now it will take forever to sort them. The same think happened to a friend who also uses Picasa. :(

And now I transferred all albums to Elements Organizer and have no clue how to post them on the hog.

You did not literally move your photos. Your jpg's are just computer files and reside on your hard drive, not in any software. Some people also back up files to online storage sites, meaning there is a copy "up there."

In either PSE, Picasa, or other similar software, you are viewing thumbnails of the images, from where they reside on your hard drive. When you "save," as opposed to save as or export, your file is still exactly where it was, but has the edits applied.

In Elements, do your edits, click File - "save as" and navigate to your desktop. Save the edited photo there. That's the quickest and easiest place to save a photo for upload to a website.

When you start a topic on UHH, below where you type your comments is the area that says "choose file" (in Chrome anyway, might be different for Internet Explorer).

Whatever the button says regarding upload, when you click that it goes to your computer. Then just navigate to the desktop and get your photo/s.

I usually have a folder on my desktop that I name "Post." That way I keep the edited and re-sized photos contained in one easy-to-access place.

I use Picasa for simple processing and photo organization. I also logged onto the new Google photo program and am appalled at the total lack of everything, Google should be ashamed for putting something of this nature out there. The post processing aspect is laughable, no crop, no nothing...one button that says, let us try, yah right. There are no folders and organization is terrible. Fortunately I use the Nikon processing program NX2, that is also not very good. Will check out Faststone Image Viewer and Smart Photo Editor, certainly need a new program for simple processing and folder storage. Very disappointed in Google.
