It is almost an unwritten rule that we give no information, do not tell if we post processed... All UHH people are expected to be mind readers and give answers from "whole cloth"

Yes, it is noisy, and certainly could benefit from Topaz deNoise, Detail, and Clarity. Do a 30 day on these and make that bird fly off the page.

Coyote!! FUNKY SETTINGS?? If you say that then please define that for innocent me.

This is a lovely picture when viewed on here the noise is not too bad, but when you look at the download the noise becomes obvious and when zoomed in it's worse.
I would advise you to use a much lower ISO, here is EXIF data for this photo:
(Auto exposure, Action (High speed), 1/197 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1600).

1600 ISO is far too high, I personally would have used the minimum ISO your camera is capable of (ISO 100), and your smallest possible F.No (f2.8)
Focus on the bird and let the exposure take the shot automatically, this should reduce the noise dramatically, blur the background and produce a lovely sharp image.

Nice shot Donald and John has given a really good analysis of the problem. Try to reduce your ISO settings to reduce the noise.
Jim.

There is some background noise, --have you run a de-noise programme on it?

Geoff
