This is a good lens. I was looking for a 24-70 lens and considered both the Tamron and Nikon versions and after reading reviews and owning two Tokina lenses, I took a chance and bought this one. Aside from the price savings(it sells for $999), it had excellent reviews, and the reviews were right, it is a very good lens, sharp at all focal lengths, with good color rendition. I recently won a "best of show" with a photograph taken with this lens on my Nikon D7100 (I know, this is a full frame lens, but I like using full frame on a crop sensor to get the center of the image on the sensor, and anyway, should I ever buy a full frame camera this lens would work). Anyone considering this focal length might give this lens a look. It does not have vibration reduction, but in these focal lengths this seems to me a minor issue. It comes in both Nikon and Canon mounts.
Then I find an owner of a Tokina 24-70 f 2.8 that I am planning to buy or the more expensive nikon 24-70 f 2.8 and there are 2 conditions that will affect my decision. One is the big difference in price, the second is that I have checked that I can't use a TC with the Nikon lens because it "project"outside the rear glass and the TC will damage this glass. Do you think that the Tokina can't accept the TC ?

I don't know the answer to this, but I agree that generally teleconverters are not used with a variable of these focal lengths. However, to get a definitive answer to your question, you can send an e-mail to Kenko Tokina USA technical support and they can tell you for sure. I have found them very responsive to any questions I have had about Tokina lenses.

For that zoom range, just get a 55-200mm lens for a hundred bucks instead of a $400 TC.
