Thank you all for the tips - the buttons labeled with the green spots did indeed reset the d5100. Bracketing and HDR now both work although as mentioned they are mutually exclusive. Now to figure out what changes I have made over the last year!

You say in a later post you have a d5100, correct?
Is there a chance you have the mode dial set to Auto? When my d5100 is on Auto mode neither auto bracketing or HDR are available.

 In Auto, many options are grayed out. That's why it's called Auto - fewer choices.

You-tube has many videos on how to set up the D5100 to your preferences. I find them very useful.

Yep, the sooner a person moves off of auto and figures out the other settings the better in my opinion ;)

The D750 requires the camera to be set to shoot .jpg.

I had the same problem on my 5200 , though my camera rarely comes off of M mode. I did a reset from the menu and that solved the problem. It has done it to me a few times. I can never find what Im doing wrong or what I may have changed to make it not work.

I am stumped. The auto bracketing and HDR are greyed out on my Nikon. The help says that my settings will not allow the use of those functions. I've tried everything that I can think of to get their function back to no avail. Can anyone out there offer me some advice?
Thanks
Paul

The HDR for sure doesn't work with RAW images.

On my D800 and D5300 you need to have bracketing turned on the menu (e2). Found that out when I tried it a few months back. The D800 has a button for it but you use the info screen to activate on the D5100. You might need to turn the thumbwheel too.
