Zooming with my Nikon L810

Ok, I have been trying to zoom in to take a picture of a ring. I can't get close enough without a blurred image. The camera does great at doing 24Xzoom. What might I be doing wrong? I have not learned all the settings yet but how hard can it be to take a picture of a ring to try and sell on ebay? I am looking for manuel settings. The CD that came with the camera does not work. The book tells the basics.

I got it. Set the camera with the little flower icon and wait for the green indicator.

MT Shooter. You are so smart. I also had to buy a memory card. Haste makes waste. Amazon has the kit for less than I paid. I am about ready to shoot ( pictures ) Now if I could get my cd manual to read in English on my computer all would be well.
