Why is my CP filter all of a sudden making my shots out of focus ?
Looking at it by eyesight appears to be perfectly clear, but when I use it the focus is off...
It is made by the Midwest Optical Systems company...

The only thing that comes to mind: Does the CP filter knock down the shutter speed too much?

i borrowed my brother's cpl during an air show for the F-16 event - I put it on my Canon 70-300mm IS, and all subsequent shots were not worth keeping, (poor focus I guess). I think I will not use a cpl again unless it's for static objects.

Is this a filter you have had for awhile? Or a new acquisition?

Its possible the old filter was just polarized via coating, many of the cheaper ones are. A good polarizer is actual polarized glass. The ones with the polarizing coating break down and don't perform well over time and is a big reason cheap filters are not really worth the expense. Good luck with the new one.

Yes, I'd suspect having mistakingly changed some setting.

But then the replacement would only have worked if you changed that setting back.

Or, as suggested above, if the light wasn't as strong and the filter was causing the shutter speed to be low causing camera movement blur. If it is was bright at the beach you might not have that problem even with the same camara settings. Or you may have changed the relevent setting.

So far that's the best explantion I see.

Another thought. Any chance that in adjusting the cpl you changed the focus?
