Good Morning wishes to all UHH members, especially, those of you who are Nikon owners.

Just about a year ago, B&H had provided for me a brand new Nikkor 200mm f/2.0G ED VR II prime lens to join with my arsenal of other skillfully manufactured Nikon lenses ~ all of which are used upon the D810 body, however; due to my having had open heart surgery to replace a defective aortic heart valve shortly subsequent to my purchasing this fine lens, to date, it has not yet been used.

Should any of our fine UHH members own and use this lens, my request is asking for you to share a few captures you have created with it because the nature of my request is for you to assist with getting my photography juices flowing whereby when the weather breaks this spring, I will be itching to mount this lens upon the D810 and finally get outdoors to use it ! :)

In advance, I kindly thank those of you for your replies and may all UHH photography enthusiasts have a great day !

~ Doug ~

Glad you are recovering from heart surgery. This is a fantastic lens you own. You are the only ones I have seen post this lens. I do not own this lens. I own a Nikon 70-300mm. I stumbled on the review of this lens on You Tube by Jared Polin and Matt Granger two weeks ago. Jared Polin has a 10 minute review. If you want to see beautiful images of this $5700.00 lens, go to www.flickr.com/groups/nikon200mm. I hope you receive more replies.

Z-S-G Hang in there, this afternoon the weather broke here and it got into the mid 70's again. The warm sun was beating down and it's heading your way slowly, just keep getting better and you'll be lining up shots in no time. You know the car makes an excellent blind, look around for a place to park put on the radio and wait and shoot something that comes by. Put some seed or bread outside the window and you never know what will show up. Either way in a few weeks your past it all, and on to shooting normally again. Good Luck

Doug, those lenses are made to be out!! Do keep in mind that at less than 2.8, that lens is no different than any other lens, just bigger,. The beauty of that lens is that wide open, it's just as sharp as stopped down and a full stop faster than all the 2.8's out there. And no other lens can do at 2.0 what that lens can do at 2.0 because you are not on top of the subject.
I'm on my way out the door, I'll look when I get back for postable shots taken with my 200 1.8! ;-)

SharpShooter, many thanks to you for the info you've provided and I look forward to hear back from your with more info on the lens. I did find a pretty good testimony about the lens when logging onto a very informative website named "LenScore" whereas the lens was rated (scored) as being Nikon's #1 best lens and no Canon lens whatsoever came anywhere close to scoring as highly as it did~ AND I am a Canon owner too just as I am a Nikon owner. Meanwhile, as said previously, I thank you and look forward to hearing back from you with any or more info that you may have.

Lastly, should anyone want to see how their lenses score and or even their sensors score, "LenScore" is the place to go. Check it out !!!

Many thanks & Best Regards,
~ Doug ~

Doug, sorry, just got back and it's almost 1am so the pics will probably have to wait till tomorrow night!
You don't say what you will be shooting with the 200. My main two uses are sports and portraits. I've also done some product with it as it produces very unique pics with a razor thin dof. It's not really much good for most nature since it's pretty short! BUT it would take a 2x very nicely which will of course make it a pretty fast 400.
It's a tough lens to use wide open. Make sure you micro adjust it dead-on or you could have some focus issues wide open.
I've never had mine on a tripod or mono. I use a handle screwed into the foot with the collar loose so I can simply rotate it between portrait/landscape and I never have to turn my hand. They're heavy but they are so short that the rotating mass is in very tight and doesn't feel as heavy. If you shoot with it all day it's a pretty good upper body workout!!
Maybe Mongoose will see this and chime in.
BTW, mine is the mkl Canon 1.8. But they are virtually the same! ;-)

Z-S-G I was bumping around last night and came across your lens on the Fred Miranda forum site. It's on Nikon forum page 2 200mm 2.8 part 2. Lots of photos and you'll be impressed, I know I was.

Doug, finally made it to my computer!! Yea, 2 days later!! LoL
Found a few images that are pretty representative of the kinds of stuff I produce with my lens.
BUT as I said, If you stop it down to 2.8, you might as well be using a 70-200 zoom. The idea is to do what the guy next to you with that zoom CAN'T do and set yourself apart.
I also recommend that you get some kind of ND filter, at least 2-3 stops. Experiment with a 50mm to see what works best for what you plan to shoot. If you go to use that lens wide open on a bright day, ISO 100 and 1/8000th is NOT enough to tame that monster, it needs to be stopped down with an ND drop-in.
I shoot mine in open rain as you can see by the cycling shot, where you can see that it's pouring rain!! I put on the hood and put electrical tape around between the hood and the lens barrel to keep the water from dripping onto the front element. This is a hardcore no-nonsense pro lens!
Like I said mine's a Canon, but I'm sure the Nikon version is exactly the same.
You can see the Bokeh is amazing.
In #1, the trees have blended into the rest of the background. #2, an advertisement I did, that's a cabinet in the background with a lot of shallow drawers, about 4 feet behind the knife and the cabinet is completely gone already. Because of the chips you can see the extremely shallow DoF and the sharpness on the lettering on the knife blade.
#3, I do a ton of Model shoots, sorry, I had to put in a tame one, or your heart might have spun out of control and you'd be right back in the ER(along with a few other Hogs)!!! LoL, just kidding! But you can see that ONLY the eyes are in focus. Just make sure you micro adjust the dickens out of it!
Those are amazing lenses and often are best when used without support, sometimes you just gotta MAN it!!!!
Doug, good luck with that lens of yours. Get that puppy outa that lens trunk and wear it out!!!
