Has anyone updated their Lens Distortion firmware on their cameras? I have a Nikon D800 and I can't seem to get it installed. I've done this before but this time I must be doing something wrong. Thanks in advance for your help.

First off, make sure you have the latest firmware, A:1.10, B:1.10, then follow these instructions.

OK, I have a Mac and I downloaded the Mac file. It is a zip file which I opened up but it still does not install. I have the correct firmware on my camera.

I'm not familiar with a Mac.
When you were on the download site, did you select the Mac version? It should have a little pointer, pointing down. This is the file you should be downloading.

This might be a silly question, but are you following the step by step instructions or working from memory?

Do you have the .bin file? Format the card your going to use. This file has to be copied to the "root directory" on the card, not a folder. The card then has to be inserted in the "primary slot" in the camera.

OK, I've done all that you said but when I go to upgrade it it already says done. The L number that is there is L 1.006 which is not the new one as far as I know.

That's the previous version, it should be 2.013. I would give Nikon support a call.

Are you certain you're unzipping the downloaded file? If so, are you certain where the unzipped files are being extracted to?

Use a new memory card and format that card in your camera.

Remove the formatted card and place it in a card reader attached to your Mac.

Secondly, make sure there are no other bin files in the root directory of the "primary" memory card.

Copy the unzipped and extracted files to the root directory of the memory card. Make sure the "A" and "B" bin files reside in the actual root directory and not a folder.

Put the card back in your camera making sure that the card slot you're using for the upgrade is the "primary slot" My guess is you are trying to upgrade the firmware from the assigned secondary slot. So, before you try the upgrade make sure you know absolutely which slot you have assigned as the "primary" slot.

I called Nikon and they sent me an email with an attachment for the Distortion firmware, I copied it to my card and then into the D800. It worked. There is something causing a problem but as usual Nikon saved my butt once again. Way to go NIKON.

I recently bought a Nikon for my wife. It is a CoolPic 7800. I am not confident to get any help from Nikon. When the camera arrived, the instruction manual was in Chinese. I wrote once and they did not respond in English. Guess we are handicapped. The translators are not that accurate.

Let me say up front that I know nothing about MACs. However, I have noticed that on my Windows system I must first store the download in a folder (on my desktop-I name it Nikon Firmware) before the file will launch. Could just be a quirk of my system although I do note that the instructions do say name a folder and download it there.

I successfully upgraded my D-800 using my MAC
I found the entire process to be extremely convoluted and confusing- nothing is intuitive

There must be a better way

I've heard so many bad stories about firmware updates as in my camera no longer works at all and that kind of thing. Since my Canon dslr does everything I need I leave the firmware original. Good luck

My thought was, do you have a USA camera or a foreign camera. You can not update firmware if you have a foreign camera. But I see your problems are fixed ,yeaaaaaaaa
