Photo Security

I am new to this site and my question is primarily directed to the operators of this site.

My questions is: Can you provide security for posted photos by blocking the ability to be downloaded or do I need to watermark any photos I post?

I have visited sites that prevent downloading and copying so I know it is possible.

Users of this site should be made aware of the fact that any posted photos can be stolen - downloaded and reused without the owner's knowledge or permission for whatever purpose the thief chooses.

Welcome aboard!

Most users are here to learn and improve their photography and are aware of the terms of use and these terms have been previously discussed in the forum many times.

That is pretty good for a persons FIRST POST. Thank you for your concern.

Enjoy and learn.

Welcome! Users of the internet should already be aware of the fact that any posted photos can be stolen.

By all means, watermark your photos. Also, resize your photos to no more than 800 pixels on the long side before you post them up. Don't share the high-res versions without good reason, if you're worried about unauthorized use.

Unless you save the original here, the photo's are configured to be too small to use in other ways.

If you are concerned than register your photographs.

Registration is Protection: Although all work is copyrighted at the moment of creation, not all work is protected equally. If a registered work is later infringed, the creator can recover actual damages (the fee that would normally have been paid for the use), as well as Statutory (Punitive) Damages and legal fees. A work that is infringed and has not been registered, can only generate the Actual Damages. This means that, in most cases, the cost of the suit far exceeds the recoverable moneys.

The one exception to the above is work that has been infringed within 90 days of first publication. In this case, it is still possible to register and have access to Statutory Damages and Legal Fees. If you are in this position, you need to register immediately.

The above is from this link:

Yeah the security this site provids is that if you are worried about having a picture stolen you don't have to post one. Anyone who posts on the internet knows that a pic can be stolen from any site. The means to do so are pretty easy now. Like others have said though this is a sharing site and because it is people come to us looking for help with their photos. To help them sometimes we have to download them and work on them and then repost for them to have.
