Curious to know what the group thinks- portrait or landscape? Of course other feedback always welcome. Old Hyde Mill near Ridgeway, Wisconsin. Taken last Fall.

I prefer the landscape, as it avoids the clouds which are a tad blown out. The landscape version has very nice color saturation and the scene contained within lends itself nicely to the landscape format.

Both. You have the water and the wheel refection in the portrait and although you lost it in the Landscape, it is still a good picture. Back to you, what about the scene attracted you in the first place? No fair answering a question with a question but it is often what I use when they both tell a good story. :)

I prefer portrait, because the sky and the water adds to the photo. Very nice photo.

These are really two different photos. The portrait features the stream with the mill at its side. The water reflection and clouds in a beautiful sky add a lot to the overall scene. I prefer the perspective of the mill in the portrait version.

The landscape version focuses on the mill and the autumn colors in the wooded area behind the mill. The sky and most of the stream are gone. Just personal taste, but for me there is much more interest in the portrait version. However, if you are trying to portray the season, the landscape version has more indicative color.

It really come down to what speaks to your feelings and intent at the time.

You have inspired me to go to Old Hyde Mill. What time of day is the best light?

You are correct. One is a portrait and the other a landscape!
Both views are excellent.

I prefer portrait or no#1.
The eye is drawn to old mill and water wheel with out the distraction of the back ground.

To me a portrait is a picture of a person.
