Does anyone have any experience with the older Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro manual focus lens?? I am thinking of buying this lens but don't know anyone who has one.

Get the Tamron. A fine lens.
You won't regret it.

Rather than relying on "someone who has one," read online reviews. I have several lenses, and I would give them all good reviews, but I'm sure that they are not the best in the world.

Go to dpreview.com and kenrockwell.com. Also, Google 90mm f2.8 and see reviews of lenses of that type.

I have the earlier 90/2.5, and it is superb.

Blessings,

Fred Miranda is also a great place for real world reviews of gear that people actually own.

I had one of these years ago, used it on my beloved old Pentax KX (with mirror lockup) 35mm body. Excellent lens, very sharp. As I recall however, it went only to 1:2 and required a short extension tube to achieve 1:1 or larger. I sold it a few months ago on E-Bay only because I switched to Canon when going digital.

It’s not the lens, it’s the photograph. Sit back and enjoy the
image rather than looking for lens issues. I enjoy using all
sorts of lenses that some people would throw out. I was given
a 28mm Nikon mount Albinar (what’s that?) which I have on
my M-9 right now for fun. In fact my sister was throwing it out.
To my belief about the most expensive used Leica lens is
a soft-focus rig….. go figure.

Research it before you buy. You will get a different answer from everyone. Your the one that has to be happy with it!! If not return it.
