Everybody above is wrong. Answer is quite simple. The camera caught you in the middle of Scotty beaming you up.

I set my camera for a remote self-photo with focus on the area where I went to stand. I used the on-camera flash as the Controller and an SB-700 as the remote flash. Everything seemed to work as planned;however, my image appeared as a "ghost." I took several photos with the same result. Subsequently, I took photos in other parts of the house and all was okay.
Can someone explain what happened?

I'm not certain, but I have a hunch that technology has made such quantum leaps in AI that they're trying to communicate something the best they can. I'm not suggesting that your camera is trying to dissolve you, but consider that it could be a sign of fading significance. Unfortunately, as we age it sometimes feels that we're less needed and appreciated. That's technology for you, though. In the early '60s my Kodak Brownie was always anxious to get together with me and a new 12 exposure roll of Plus X and never pulled a stunt like that on me. Then again, I was a young boy; vital and invincible. Maybe some sweet pillow talk will improve your relationship. Hope it all works out.
