Plaubel Makina IIIR

I was referred a mint Plaubel Makina made in 1953.
It came in a kit, complete except for the tele lens (not so sure that the tele was included with the kit).
The only drawback is that the stitching for the case has completely given out - leather panels seem good.
I was asked to deduce its value and sell it to a good home.
The market seems to be in Europe.
Any ideas? It's been years since I was involved in the collectable market.

This is a fairly desirable collectible camera ....I would think $200 as a minimum (my opinion) . Check ebay "sold items" .....

Working. $1000.00 Meter working and wire connecting meter to body from lens in excellent condition $1500.

Average condition III models with the Anticomar 100mm lenses can be found for $400-500 in user condition, but very nice ones command much higher prices.

Excellent plus, all functions go. $2000.

High demand item in the right places. Talk about it on rangefinderforums.com to find best interest. Lots of knowledge on this camera there. It's a relatively rare find of a MUCH sought after Vintage camera.

Shoots 120 roll film on either 6X7 or 6X9 format.

Don't let it go cheap. Lowballers abound and it's a high end camera.

The III models were predecessors to the 67, 670 and 690 models, the latter often with Nikon lenses and quite usable today. Prices generally similar to the early III models and the 67-690 models not often found below $800. The weakness in the later models was the wire strung through the folding linkage to connect the lens to the body. Not very repairable when found not working well.

It's a German Camera, but the market is not exclusive to Europe. Plenty of buyers in the US. I've purchased and sold a few Plaubels in the medium format market. They also made excellent high end large format products.

Try selling to Hong Kong or other asian countries where they also can afford specialist lenses.

That's the best way to get an idea of what people are willing to pay. Of course, this can vary, depending on who is shopping at any particular time.

In 1963 I met the owner of Plaubel, Goetz Schrader, at the Photokina show in Cologne (he was manning the Plaubel booth and nobody seemed interested). I bought two cameras -- a Brooks Plaubel Veriwide 100 superwide rollfilm camera and a PECO Jr. 4x5/9x12 monorail view camera. Since I arranged to pick them up at his office in Frankfurt, I decided to interview him on his company's background, especially the Makina camera, because he designed the evolution of that famous series. The Makina III introduced flash synchronization to the line, including Germany's first lightweight electronic speedlight, and had a pretty long list of accessories. In 1960 Schrader decided to discontinue the Makina line, because he felt its design could not be improved any further "so it still had its good name and was well-known for its quality, and we could be sure to take this as a base for new designs." He decided to focus on view cameras and studio camera stands. He remained a bachelor, and since no other family members were interested in taking on the company, he sold it in 1975 to the highest bidder -- a Japanese camera store chain, which revised the Makina but ran into financial difficulties. The Plaubel view cameras returned to Germany and the company continues with the Plaubel PECO Profia monorail models, ranging from 9X12/4X5 up to 18X24 cm/8X10 in. formats. I have more details on the models of the Schrader years if anyone's interested.

It's a jewel of a camera to hold.
The workmanship is sooo Teutonic.
