Hi I checked it out and here is a link to fix the problem. This is just a General error an can be fixed easily, usually it has to do with the contacts on camera or lens, I included a link to fix it Google is Your Friend. Hal http://improvephotography.com/10372/error-99-canon-camera-fix-repair/

I had that one time several years ago. I don't remember what it was, but it was an easy fix. It didn't cost me anything.

PLEASE STOP. The members who gave you the link to fix your camera are all very knowledgeable and helpful. But perhaps they didn't notice that Step #2 involves the cleaning of contacts by rubbing them with a pencil eraser. Those contacts are almost always plated with a metal (often gold) which is highly conductive. Rubbing them with a pencil eraser can erode or remove that plating resulting in irreparable damage. Clean the contacts with alcohol, a cleaner made for such contacts or even a clean rag, anything except a pencil eraser. Having done that, proceed with the repairs suggested in the article to whom these fine people referred you.

THe Error 99 is a "Bad Contact" Error. I get it sometime when I use my 70-200L lens. Just wipe of the contacts, reapply and it should go away.

Thank you all. I will pass on this information to my friend, she will be blessed by your assistance.

Yes, I fear I took the EASY way out, asked for help and got it. "Family and friends" do seem to make our lives easy when we allow them to help.

Trouble shared is halved while joy shared is doubled. Thank you again.

Very easy to fix. Just clean the contacts on the lens and camera and then reconnect the two. No big deal just a very simple fix....Rich

The question should be why does it bother you that someone asked for help that might be available elsewhere? This forum offers personal experience that unites rather than divides. If you don't want to help, ignore the question.
