Hello I've been looking at stools for portraits. I've seen them with and without casters. I've also noticed on B&H than none of them have casters. Does it matter which one I get?

If you'll see the stool I can't imagine using one with casters.
Certainly not very traditional, even if you don't see the casters.
I use a traditional bistro/café chair most of the time. I can get WAY more creative with it! But I'm not shooting guys in suits either. ;-)

DO NOT GET ONE WITH CASTERS!!!!

I made the mistake of using one and almost lost some customers as it slipped away from them while they were getting on. Definitely use the one without casters or take them off as I have done.

For liability issues alone I would not use a stool with casters.

I have a stool with a chrome base, foot place and transparent seat, it's great.

I would go without casters. When I used the posing stools, I did not want the client moving around even though you can lock the casters. A pain to unlock, etc.

As one with a medical background, I have to admit that I had a completely different expectation when I read the title of this post.

I had not thought about it being a liability I was thinking more interms of the positive: mobility and the negative: motion blur.
if I remove the casters will it damage my wood floors or are there covers a available. Thanks for all the in put. No casters it is.

If you order the non caster model, it comes with a special material(plastic?) that is not supposed to damage floors. If you want to have both casters and then want it stable (non-casters), I guess you could remove the castors and buy at your ACE or whatever hardware store buy rubber tips that like go on canes, etc.

Me too, regarding the medical background of stools, also known as scat, feces and other not nice stuff.
Probably would make for interesting closeup and macro shots.
Actually, I have taken photos of coyote, bear, and deer scat.
Forgot about that.

Now I am more into bar stools!
