Canon Speedlite 580 EX II has a flash exposure confirmation lamp below the pilot light.
According to the manual, after the shot the lamp lights on for three seconds if the flash unit thinks it delivered enough light for correct exposure.
If the light doesn't turn on, it means the flash probably fired at the max level and it still wasn't enough.
Does anyone know what happens when 580 EX II acts are a wireless master in regards to flash exposure confirmation lamp?
Does it take into account illumination provided by the slave units? In the same group? What about the slave units in a different group? Master being group A and slaves in group B?
What if I'm in a situation when master flash unit wouldn't have been enough on its own, but the slave (either in the same group or in group B) added enough light for correct exposure -- would the light show it?
If you are using the 580EX II as the master with slaves utilizing the Canon wireless setup, E-TTL will automatically set the flash power for all the units.
If you read the instructions (we usually just glance through them) for the 580EX II you will find a notation saying the the exposure confirmation lamp showing green does not guarantee that the exposure is correct. It is just an indication- a guess on the part of the camera.
You should buy Blue Crane Digital Video on Canon Speedlite 580EX II/430 EXII. I don't believe it talks about the indicator, but it tells you how to set up multiple Slaves and how to use them.
