What does the UHH community think of metal prints, such as these:

Have you been pleased with the appearance? How do they look hung on a wall?

I have seen them in touristy places and they looked very nice although the pictures were most likely done by professional photogs but I have a print on glass one by fracturem.com and it turned out pretty well. Good luck.

I had this photo printed on metal. It came out darker than I hoped it would.

I like. I have been thinking about trying it but the problem is picking just the right picture.

I really liked the metal prints in the beginning. But, later found out there are many different "qualities" of these prints. If they are not done at high-end printers, they tend not to be something that is desirable...for me.

I have a couple that are gorgeous, but sub-sequence ones turned out not so great. If using metal, be sure to pay for the best and cross your fingers. There are types of photos that are well-suited for metal and plenty of those that are not suitable for metal.

I have had some done by Bay Photo (12x18) and they are spectacular. They almost appear as 3D - much brighter than paper prints.

I had 2 (16x24) metal prints done by Bay Photo. The quality is superb.

I have a booth full of them! They make a big impact and they sell. I've had all mine done at Mpixpro so far, however I've been looking to have some larger sizes done at Bay Photo. As previously mentioned, I would definitely stick to the big names: Mpix, Bay, WHCC, Adorama, etc. Pay the little extra to get the float mount on the back and they're ready to hang.

Based on your experience, what subjects display best on metal? I have read that photographs of water really pop on metal.

Depends on the water. Almost everything can look good on metal. Certain photos though (as you can see in the booth) still look better to me on canvas though; usually the softer feeling ones like foggy lupines, and images that I don't want to have a glare like snowy, high key shots. The metal is very reflective high gloss. I've tried the matte metals, but don't like them. They just look dull.

I think photos that do best on metal are ones with a lot of sharpness like cityscapes, and photos with great, bold color, whch can be most anything. But then I've seen some semi-desaturated portraits that look great on metal too... it's very versatile.

So you "inventory" that many metal prints? That's a lot of $$ sitting there. How much do you mark them up? Looks like you're at a craft show of some sort.

Yep. I do art shows around the midwest. Always have a good bit of coin tied up in inventory, but it moves quickly enough to justify it. Markup depends on the size... Some are about 2x, some a bit more.
