This is a new bird to our yard, have 4 of them daily. According to one of our bird books, it is a Lesser Goldfinch, but looks similar to several others. Any ideas about it?

American Goldfinch rather than Lesser Goldfinch, I would say. They are pretty similar. I counted over 200 of them here at one time the other day.

Nice shots.

Won't argue over ID, 'cause I don't know. But you have some really nice images.

My sister lives in Michigan, outside of Ludington. On a visit a number of years ago I couldn't see out her kitchen window. The entire screen was covered with these things, awaiting their turn at the feeder.

Whats that old saying..."you can't teach a new bird, old flight patterns"!!...maybe that's not exactly right, but great shots!!!

I'm not sure I want to put too many additional weed seeds in my back yard.

They also love sunflower seeds. I always let a few sunflowers grow from the seed that falls from my feeder.

We put out sunflower seed for them in 5 feeders all winter. I think we have had 2 sunflower plants spring up as a result over the last 5 years. Sunflowers are not a bad "weed" to have in any case.

American Goldfinch. They will eat Sunflower Chips, Black oil, and Nyjer.

I agree with American Goldfinch. It appears to be a Female with Fall/Winter plumage. Nice, good job!
