Anybody out there who switched from a PC to a Mac, and later regretted the switch
It seems there are those that switched from a PC to MAC and "never looked back; but are there those that switched and did "look back"?

I've never owned a Mac and never regretted that!!
Can't see why I'd ever want one at what they cost.
I do own an iPhone and love it...., I think it's like a mini Mac(the computer, not the hamburger)!!

I owned a couple Apple II's back in the late '70's. When the mac came out I switched to a PC. Before Windows. At that time the PC had all sorts of third party accessories and software while the mac was limited to proprietary stuff.

One more here for the Mac. Started with computers in early 80's with CP/M, then owned several PC's and laptops. Transitioned to Mac in the early 90's and never looked back. Currently use a MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone.

I'm a computer professional with over 30 years experience. I owned one of the original Macs when they came out in 1984. I still use Macs today.

But I also use Windows PCs and a wide variety of Linux computers. To my mind the "PC Wars" are over, and anyone who buys and uses a computer pretty much gets what they want (or deserve!).

I'll suggest Macs to those that ask (and because there is virtualization software, Macs can run the other operating systems, too). The objection to cost is a smokescreen: Macs include everything one needs, whereas you need to add the cost of Office software, photo processing software (Macs include Photos), music software, and anti-virus (!) programs. The costs add up.

Then too, there's a lot of free (as in beer) software available for all platforms, so if you're not afraid of opening the covers a bit, you can get a lot of add-ons for nothing.

I switched about 10 years or so ago and have no regrets. I was leery of making the change, so I made an appointment at the Apple Store to talk to someone about it. They spent about an hour with me explaining and demonstrating things to me.
Apple customer service is about 87 gabazilliion light years better than MS, and that's both on the phone and in person (can you even arrange to see a MS technician in person?)
I highly recommend the Apple - One To One. Be sure to talk with them about it.

With so much of the popular software being cross platform, I don't think the box itself makes much difference. Service, if needed, could be a deciding factor.

I do love Apple for one reason. When my sister used a PC at work and at home, she constantly called me with problems. Her son-in-law talked her into switching to Apple after she retired. Now he gets the phone calls. :)

A friend talked me into a Mac when my HP was dying. I hate it!!! When I can afford another computer I'll go back to PC.

Like Just Fred above I use both Windows and Mac computers. I have yet to find a laptop that feels as nice as my MB Pro... Yep, it was expensive but the glass (yes glass) multitouch trackpad is easily the best I've ever used for photo editing.

The integrated Time Machine backup system saved my ass one time when I foolishly toasted my operating system. It was literally holding down a key at startup and a couple clicks and my computer was restored to its state 4 hours earlier.

I also love being able to hold down the T key at boot and any Mac will start up as an external drive - you can literally just copy your files from your Mac to another computer even if the OS is toast for a quick backup.

Last weekend I upgraded a friends Mac with a new 500 gig SSD and installed the OS over the internet - no cd required. It then asked if I had a user profile I wanted to import, I plugged in the old drive to a USB port and it restored her files and settings right down to the background image of her family.

Yep, they're more expensive but I spend WAY less time with maintenance than I ever have with Windows systems. Time is money eh? What would you rather be doing?

I need to run a lot of software that won't run on a Mac.

Like what? I use Virtual Box and can boot up a Windows 7 VM in about 10 seconds. I use it to run my Microsoft Money Sunset Edition.

For those pining for a PC when owning a Mac, before shelling out money for a PC, try PC emulation on a Mac. PC emulation works fine, allows the use of the one or two useful programs not available on the Mac (in my case, I had to make 3D Blu-Rays, and this was only available cheaply in the otherwise dreadful PC program "Sony Vegas Pro" which I used only to burn Blu-Rays from 3D programs finished in Apple's Final Cut Pro, and oddly, only ONE iteration of that Vegas software had the correct codec for 3D Blu-Ray production, which is to say, it could NEVER be "upgraded." )

I know people who use Macs in PC mode and find the Mac as PC better than a PC, but these people were NOT doing gaming. For gaming, PC's rule, in general.

One other comment, you can safely say that no serious graphic work, apart from some video, is done on PCs in the professional world. In fact, there is a very large magazine(s) publisher which will NOT accept PC created files. In my experience doing adventure travel advertising, I only found ONE publisher, EVER, in 20 years, which did their pre-press on a PC. It was a backwaters newsprint fishing report thing. I just sent them a press ready TIF. It's amazing how many PC's (or users thereof) struggle with PDF.

Mac since '97, and have never looked back (and have been relatively issue free in those years). Every now and then I have to use a pc, but that's maybe only one or twice a year for work. We have Windows in our office, but it's run on a Mac Pro, and it's only really to convert AutoCAD files into Adobe Illustrator. From there, we switch back over to the Mac platform.
