Which type of printer is better for printing digital photos, color or B
&W onto glossy card paper in note card size? Inkjet or laser? Is there a particular brand that is known to have superior quality results?

It is my understanding that ink jet is best for any type of photo printing. Of course, there are many different quality ink jet printers. One dedicated to photo printing is best, and again, a wide variety and quality. Personally I use Epson, and am very satisfied. Leave the laser printer for the office.

You'll probably get the best advice if you post this in the "Printers And Color Printing Forum":

There are a lot of good printers out there, and your choice depends on your intended use. Dye-sub printers make quick and bright prints, but the accuracy of colors is often so-so. Ink jet printers are the consensus choice of photographers. Office use for low-tek subjects and easy maintenance plus no penaltiy for long gaps between uses dictates laser printers.
My experience is with HP, Epson and Canon. For desktop photo printing up to 17"x25" I prefer Canon by a significant margin. Epson is OK, but a hassle to use because of need to change the black inks between Matt & Glossy prints. For very large prints, Epson is excellent.
See some of the earlier replies for sources of information.

Lots of info here. You don't have to spend a fortune for a decent printer, but also consider the cost per page. Consumer Reports probably has a comparison.

For photo work you can't beat the new Epson sure color series. Pick the one you want by max size you wish to print.

It depends on what your goal is. Although I own a Canon 9500 and enjoy it I print mostly 5x7, 8x10 and 11x13. For 4x6 work I send them to the local costco.

You're really not asking for printer advice but basically how to print. I think you need to go elsewhere.

I have been using Epson and Canon printers for many, many years. While I like both, I lean heavily toward Epson. I do recommend that you use the ink and paper designed specifically for the printer you choose.
