Why does a Nikon have a little button with a red dot on top?

If you remove the s when posting a link it will be live. It might also need a space before and after.

I wondered what that button was for...

In the linked video, I saw neither a little button nor a red dot. What are you talking about?

It is video button.

Edit: And I thought some wonderful video, at that! Thanks for posting.

The linked video has nothing to do with any suggested answer. A waste of time.

When all else fails, read the instructions.

I left it in there in an attempt to avoid being sent to Links and Resources. I doubt it will work!

Yes, I also find that frustrating.

Great video but not relevant to your question. The red dot button starts video recording.

Admin just moved my post from yesterday, on the release of a lens distortion update for Nikon cameras, because of the link that I provided. I think that is utterly stupid, and Admin should get their head out of their a$$, and move the one that have nothing to do with photography.
I did message them back, even though I know nothing will come of it.

I believe it is done automatically by a bot. I agree that is bot that needs to be sent off to never-never land.

Maybe your message will convince them to fix it.

It would be nice, that way the Main Photography Section wouldn't get jammed up with a bunch of crap.
They should take a look at Dpeview, a site that is very well organized.

I was suggesting that, if you learn when and how use it, you can take stunning video, even with a Nikon. I posted, hopefully with a little humor, after reading posts over time with themes such as, "I'll never shoot video, I'm a photographer." and "Why do I have to pay for video features in my new camera that I'll never use."
