Messing around with Serif PhotoPlus Warp Tool. Lot's of fun. Original object was a chair in a display window which was lost in translation. Original was made with camera. Is it still a photograph?

Or the ever-popular corollary: is it art? :)

I don't care about discussion of either of those questions; I just like to see interesting, creative, pretty, thought-provoking, inspiring, funny "stuff."

Since your creation ticks at least two of those boxes, I like it!

If it was made by light striking a photosensitive material, yes, it's a photograph.

Thanks, Linda. Sorry to have brought up the subject - AGAIN! lol

It's original title was unprintable in polite society.

As Bob said, and I also find it to be a good photograph.

Edit: Turned into good art. Agree with Jim-Pops for the most part.

Yes, it's a photograph, it was taken with a camera. But I think this has to be considered art. When an image is so altered to not no what it was, it then becomes art. If this was framed up on a wall being displayed I don't think it could be considered good photography but it could be considered good art. Just my thoughts. Jim

Interesting image- photographic art, maybe? I like it. I do think it is important to hold onto the photograph- part of the description, because that is the medium it was initially captured in. But like almost all of your work, it is transformed into art by your vision, your intent, your skills and use of digital darkroom tools. So it is all that.

Bob's comment is absolutely correct. Photons struck a photosensitive surface sensitive to electromagnetic radiation (that must include the wavelengths of visible light)resulting in an image. How that image is processed or manipulated is of no matter, it's still a photograph, and, as such, distinguished from a radiograph (X-Ray image in which the sensitive surface is struck by partially shadowed X-rays), or an electronmicrograph in which the sensitive surface is struck by an electron beam focused by electromagnetic lenses.
Some, of a persnickety ( but accurate) persuasion will argue that neither infra-red nor ultraviolet images, resulting from focused non-visible infra-red wavelengths (wavelengths longer than any in the visible spectrum) or ultraviolet wavelengths ( shorter than any in the visible spectrum) are not photographs, but, simply, I-R images or U-V images, respectively. "Photons" are, by definition, electromagnetic particles that act as waves within the spectrum of wavelengths perceptible by the human eye.

For those who would rather not be bothered with the constraints of anything so inconveniently picky as ...accuracy of expression ...can just call 'em all "pictures" or "images" and be happily done with it; the great unwashed don't really give a damn!

Glad to clear all that up for you.

Best regards.
Dave

It came out of a camera Jim so its a photograph or probably more of a snap. Is it art, not a chance. That is of course unless you can convince yourself it is talking to you and telling a story stirring up deep emotions and displaying well captured light lol. Maybe being in mono would reveal its full emotional impact Jim.
Its a Serif doodle and providing you got fun out of producing it then that's cool. As a confirmed doodler I know how relaxing it can be
So do think its a photo or a snap and as a working artist do you consider you have made a work of art? Would you hang it in one of your shows?
Your opinion is much more valid than those of us who Dave refers to as the great unwashed! I do resent that as I take a bath on the 15th of every month whether I need to or not.

But.... Infra-Red images, Ultra-Violet images as well as Photographic images all come out of a camera...

Art is in the eye of the beholder, as is beauty and a lot of other things. Opinions of others are meaningless. To thine own self be true!

I don't know--I really like what you've done, but I think perhaps it has stepped beyond boundaries of photography into art. Moreover, I don't really think it matters whether it's considered art or photography. Beauty, as the old saying goes, is in the eye of the beholder. I think this adage applies to photography vs. art as well.

In the galleries and shows I'm in, this would have to be called "photo-based digital art."
