Build a Motorized Rail for Macro

This seems like a lot of work for a little result, but maybe dedicated macro people would see the value in it.

EDIT: They will be using borescopes to inspect for the missing clips, but I don't see how that would be possible. Maybe they'll be looking for damage to the cylinder walls.

"All affected units will require use of a borescope to inspect the four cylinders to confirm correct piston pin snap ring placement. Vehicles exhibiting any concerns with piston pin snap ring placement may require replacement of damaged pistons, piston pins or rings, or other related engine components."

I believe something very similar if not identical is made commercially. I own a Macro Slider made in Japan by Velbon. When I attach it to the Nikon Bellows PB-6M (macro copy stand), it gives the most minute and accurate movement even for extreme close-ups. I attach a picture of a tiny seed next to a mm scale made with a Macro-Nikkor f=35, 1:4.5 from a distance of 3cm.

Amazing! My macro is more traditional (so-so).
