Good looking 'kids,' although I've never heard of that Hound breed. Could you give me some info on it?

Hi, The breed is "Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Hounds" or "Catahoula Cur or Hog Dog". They are in a variety of colors, some with the blue merle spotted coloring, also with the "Glass Eyes" meaning Pale blue. Some have one brown eye and one Blue eye. Also the Merle gene can throw Deafness, sometimes blindness too. They are catch dogs, some people use them for Hog hunting or catching Rank Cattle. They are hard headed, but very good natured and loving. They are Lousiana State Dog.

Historical notes: Catahoula Leopadard Dogs are believed to have first originated from the Mastiffs and Greyhounds that were brought by Hernando de Soto to Louisiana in the 1500's. When the dogs were left behind, local native American Indians took them in and bred them with local breeds, most likely one that closely resembles the Carolina Dog of today. The arrival of the French saw the introduction of the Beauceron into the breed.

Thanks for the info. Interesting breed...must be a tough dog to go wild hog hunting....they are dangerous animals to say the least. I thought they might have some foxhound in them, but hounds ARE hardheaded....I'm on my 7th Beagle...why, I don't know...they just keep finding me. I must have done somthing terribly wrong in my last life. :-)
