When using the adjustment brush on my MAC and activating the Option "O" function to check the areas I have affected (i.e., colored shading), I have been experiencing inconsistency with it showing the shading one time and then not the next, even after toggling on/off several times.
Is there something I am not understanding about this tool? In other words, is the shading affected by one of the sliders (i.e., opacity, density, etc.) that would cause this? I have played with them a bit but have found no consistent results.
Thanks for your thoughts/time!

I'm thinking that if your computer isn't particularly powerful, especially in the graphics department, it might be a bit slow from time to time. Sometimes the changes will come up quickly, sometimes not. And if you start toggling when it's just taking its time you'll just be burdening it with more commands to slow it down even more. I have a fairly powerful computer and I find that you just have to give LR the time that it needs to work things through.
On the other hand that might have nothing to do with it  .
