Peter, nice capture !!! You can never go wrong with baby/younger animals of any sort. My personal opinion is I would have cropped a little tighter but still maintain the frame, but thats just me. I just feel it would have been a much stronger image. Either way, its still a very nice image.

I love the pp for all the detail and textures. Fun framing, with extra interest in the post - how it's held to the slats with wire.

Perfect moment when the calf is looking at you with such interest.

I'd crop a tiny off the top to remove those lighter areas of other critters.

Nice work, Peter. I really like the framing technique you've used here, and the colors are just right.

I was going to say that it is difficult to make the young of most mammal species look unappealing, but that's basically what Dave said, so I won't be redundant.

As a veterinarian I never met a calf I didn't like....although an American bison calf did once make a valiant (on his part), supremely painful (on my part), but ultimately unsuccessful effort to eliminate my future prospects in the line of fatherhood!

Focus, exposure, and internal framing are all effective.
I like the image!

Thanks to you, Linda, I "discovered" this section abd subscribed - glad I did.
I'll second your motion about cropping a bit off the top for the same reason. Also, I'd see if I could crop it a bit more so as to make the calf's face a bit more prominent.
I really liked the image very much, though. Thanks for posting it.

Just a master class in PP my man. Nothing more needs saying.
Well I could mention exquisite light and how you have captured it so well lol.

'Capture exquisite light.....' hmmmm well there is nothing like a bit of gentle HDR like this to create light that wasn't there or enhance light that is barely there.

Glad you liked it.

I like your calf. You've taken a mundane image and made it interesting with your processing and light-maneuvering. What makes the image work for me though is the composition, with the fence as a recessed frame, the details of wood and wire and rust, and the lit area in the background which is just enough without being too much.

I bet you could take this one in a whole different direction with a monochrome approach, less grittiness, and more shaping of light.

Yup you are absolutely right, this is one sitting on my list for a monochrome conversion, some rainy day when I am stuck inside. 'Light manoeuvring,' thats a really nice phrase, it covers a whole range of stuff that we do in pp to change the apparent light on a subject I think I might steal that. Many thanks for the feedback.

Catch you soon.

Close to perfect. I echo others regarding cropping to strengthen an already terrific capture.
