Interesting history lesson.

You could almost apply this to the UK.

Its debt is also out of control.

The gap between the poor is astonishing.

We now borrow money to give it away.

Thank you for the link.

I prefer the original song by Julie Covington

Based on your response, I suspect that you are a liberal/democrat. No offense intended, but I have heard this response from libs before. Cheers.

This is right wing crap. How do you explain the enviable lifestyles of Sweden. Norway and even Germany, all of which have extensive social benefits, strong labour unions and healthy economies?

bel, please tell me how you would pay down this extraordinary debt of 20 trillion by the end of this year. High taxation rates is not an answer as is proven by Argentina.

A bit simplistic but interesting. No mention made of the Generalissimo's who also helped ruin the country.

The USA is not Argentina. The comparisons made are superficial. Our last recession was not caused by too many entitlements - it was caused by unregulated banks committing fraud, the exportation of American jobs to satisfy corporate greed and an unwillingness of Congress to invest in job-creating projects, to name a few.
