I know this is never going to qualify as a great pic but his face is gorgeous. My garden has been invaded by grasshoppers particularly the tomatoes which of course keeps the butcher birds very happy as they love chomping into hoppers. I picked this guy off one of the plants, extended my arm as far out as I could, adjusted the camera settings one handed then took a one handed shot, bending down so that the pool gave me a blue background. As I said not the greatest of shots but sometimes its nice to post something for fun and just because you like it.

Any thoughts most welcome.

Not only did you get terrific detail, but you thought about the background! Along with the composition and colors, these all add up to a delightful and unique photo. I love it!

This a situation where the compact pocket camera is more practical than DSLR camera.

I like this a lot! I have in fact done something similar, but I use a compact and it's waaaay easier therewith. I think this is terrific. Sharp enough that if you have a criminal record you should probably blur your fingerprints.  The fingers give it scale. The 'hopper appears to be calmly and unconcernedly regarding you, waiting for his closeup. I happen to enjoy insects and such, especially close and sharp because they are such interesting critters. Well done!

Sharpness, detail, and a very pleasant background. That's a lot to do with just one hand. Well done.

Only staying in the land of the sensible for a short while, the land of the loopy hasn't been visited for a little while and I feel myself in the need of finding some rust and decay to photograph. Though if I had been quicker I would have got a lovely pic of one of our butcher birds chomping into my grasshopper model a few minutes after this shot was taken. But that was deep in the shadows of the tomato plant to which I returned said grasshopper so it would have been hard to have beautifully captured some exquisite light in there.

Catch you soon, glad you liked it.

Peter
