Love your post processing on this one! Really nice and colorful, in a painterly way.
The bull is beautiful, lots of fine detail and the light under his chin up to his mouth contrast nicely with the tree. The tree and the hair are both highly textured but the textures of the tree are so different to the hair that they make the perfect backdrop. He truly is the lord of his domain. But unfortunately the processing has let you down somewhat. The yellow grass distant trees and sky seem to be on a different layer to the bull and the tree. Selecting the hair to allow a merge is very difficult and has not quite worked in this case. If you look at his back end at the top of his rump you can see where the selection isn't right as there are bright slivers between the hair knots. It also looks like some of the cloud has been painted over hair. If you go further around the rump there is a section of hair sticking out with a very clear blending edge line which continues further down behind his tail. If you look at the branches directly above his left horn you can see there are small missing sections of the branch where the blue has been allowed to invade. And if you take a close look at all the tree edges you can see the little white telltale tags where a very white sky has been replaced. Am I being super picky? Well yes because if you post an image for a response I figure that I should do you the courtesy of looking at in detail, and I mean really looking at it. The thing is that fundamentally I like the image and the concept a lot. And I do recognise the degree of work taken to get it to this standard. But with such an interesting and potentially wonderful image it is worth taking the extra time to get it perfect because for me the little things I have pointed out really stick out and detract from the overall impact.
I hope this helps.

I must concur with Peter and add your round brush marks are visible amongst the treetops in the background. A wonderful concept of a magnificent animal.
That is definitely a lot of bull.
Wonderful! Gorgeous! (There is no light...like back light!)

I get that he was standing where he was standing and you weren't going to change that. I do, however, find the tree a bit distracting. Just a bit. It takes away from the size and the presence of the animal in a small way. I do like the light and the pp. Very bright and appealing.

Hi Peter, thank you for having such a close look at the brute, and here is the image re-posted with the missing layer labeled "bum fluff" switched on before saving. I hope this is a little more satisfactory.....Cheers, Rob.

I should say so. Nice capture.

Sorry, I'm a little late in the discussion, but the second image has not fixed much. The tail and rump area still needs work. There are still areas around the photo where bright white is still evident in particular between the right rear leg and the log.

I love the hieland bull, and the BG, but am visually flummoxed by how, at the very moment/ nay, instant of exposure, you managed to use a lower perspective to capture the reflected light from the bull than was used to capture that from the background. He appears to be leaning a bit to his left.
Ah....the mystery of it all!
Best t'ye, Lad,
I hope all is well,
Dave
Wonderful composition and colours - shows his true proportions against other objects - very compelling image.
