I'm starting to look around for a new wide angle lens. I currently use a Canon 17 - 35MM L lens and was thinking of some thing that would be around 10 - 14mm. It doesn't have to be a Canon lens if I can get decent results with it.
I intend to use it mostly for night sky photography. Thanks for your thoughts!

Ref your enquiry; the canaon 16-35mm F4L has a very good reception, better than the F2.8L
Unless you have a full frame the Cannon 12 18 is good lens for the price. Cannon did have them before Christmas for 149.00. I bought one, have not had the chance for a good work out but what little I have played with it does a good job. I did a few inside shots with two lights and was well satisfied. A few out side, it takes some getting used to being being so close to your subject.
I should have said I intend to use it on a Canon 5D MkII...

EF 11-24 f/4L, best possible lens for what you want.

A very good lens for not much money is the Rokinon/Samyang 14mm.
Its manual focus but will not be an issue for your intended purpose since the DOF is so great focusing is almost not necessary.
Be careful. Anything less than 16mm on full frame is close to "fisheye" with lots of distortion. I use a canon 16-32 II canon L lens and love it for nature and sky photography.
I also use it for sports photography when I want the whole field in view.
I wouldn't go much wider unless I purposely wanted the distortion that comes with it.

Canon does not make a 16-32 lens! There is however the 16-35, which is not very wide, when used on a crop sensor.
If you want 10-14 on a full frame the Canon 8-15 fisheye is a great lens. Okay there is distortion (it is a fish eye after all) but if your photographing the nightsky this should not be an issue. I love my Canon 8-15 (I use it on a 6d) and the quirky shots when you go full fisheye are awesome.

For a full frame camera (your 5D-Mk2), you won't buy better than a Tamron 15-30 mm f2.8, but it is not inexpensive. :-D

I recently got the Sigma 10-20 mm, and love it!
I recently bought (used) a Canon 10-18 Wide-Zoom. This lens works very well, for me that is. This lens will not work on my Canon 5D Mark II.... However works very well on my 7D and that is the camera that I got it for. Knowing what works on ANY camera that you have is mandatory.
