Sun barely breaking through now. However, heading to Maribor in a few hours. Nap needed. Went for a solo wander into St. Nicholas Church. The baroqueness speaks for itself.

The main door is very heavy. The shiny head is the place to push to open.

A magnificent church well photographed. And you're right...not built like this anymore. We loved going through the old churches of Europe and they are really the only thing that would tempt me to return.

Thank you. Ljubljana has church steeples all over the place. Will be posting more over the coming days while I have the time to wander around. Very safe city. No fear on the streets even last night while shooting down near the canal.

These take me back to my art history classes in college. Nothing in the US quite compares to the beauty of the art and architecture of the older European cathedrals. Very nice. I hope you'll share many more from your trip.

Thanks Vicki. It has been an interesting five days here with two weeks to go. The street architecture in the older parts of the cities is fascinating. Maribor is full of alleys and arched passageways. Spent several hours today photographing some of them. Will post tomorrow.

I stopped dead in my tracks when I went into the church. It was almost empty so I felt comfortable taking photos. The Franciscan church, nowhere near as ornate, was getting ready for Mass so I prayed for a bit and quietly departed.

I am always amazed at how well the cathedrals have been preserved considering their age and the number of wars that they endured. I am also amazed at how ornate and elaborate the cathedrals are decorated, altho' I have seen this as well in even poorer countries. Wanting to give what they have to make the Lord's house beautiful,I'm thinking.
Your images are well done, interesting & impactful.Enjoying all!
