Looking for some items to shoot. Went to the antique store yesterday and found this item. Copy on the glass said Liberty Bell copy-write W70. On the bottom it says Wheaton NJ.
Constructive criticism, please. Thanks!
Nice image Jim..............
I do have a little problem with the background. It's competing for attention with your subject. The only other comment would have to be the soft focus on the month piece, the bottom half is sharp.
As always, respectfully.
ps. I can't seem to find a way to view exif data, yet.

The background is Natural Wood taken at same time. I did add a layer of texture to darken the background. I shot at f/11 trying to get all in focus. The item is small. My other option would be to take 2 shots and stack them to get all the elements in focus.
Here are the vitals. For some reason it said no flash but there was one off camera about 3 ft away using a defuser.
Thanks for stopping by with your insight.

I redid with a different effect

I like the shot Pops. Maybe if you stood back a step the mouth piece might come into the focus plane. Some here I'm sure could tell you. In both photos your back ground work what ever it is seems to be noticeable. Other than that, good concept, good subject, and composition.
I like this better, my eye is drown to the subject and stays there. The focus issue draws less attention, although in MHO is still an issue but I tend to be picky
Respectfully

The processing of the second is a definite improvement, the background is no longer intrusive. But I much prefer the placement in the first pic. The phone is to the left of centre and gives the feeling that the curved the top part is moving the eye into the pic. In the second, even though I like the closer crop you have placed it more central with the result that the top feels as if it is moving the eye out of the pic. This doesn't work so well for me. I also am not a fan of the frame in the first one. It certainly gives a sense of depth but the white edging, being comparatively wide and being the brightest part of the image, grabs the eye and is quite over powering. I think a frame could be an enhancement to the second image but one with more subdued tones which echo the content of the pic.
I hope this helps.
Peter
Nice one Jim, Short and sharp got net problems
The second shot is far better - I'd go a bit further with darkening the background (separately from the vignette) and, perhaps, a bit of dodge and burn to make the subject stand-out. Great subject!

...won't you need a land-line connection...Or at least a Wi-fi adaptor?
Hasn't Alexander G-Bell started regularly supplying those options!
..but seriously.."I wasn't being serious.
The image is of an exposure and a color balance and BG that just oooozes nostalgia!
Dave G.
Thanks for your comments Peter. I didn't realize the cropping was different. When I redid it straightened some more and that made me crop a bit different and noticeable. The frame was just for the hog. Thought it would look better with the yellow background. I agree it could be different.

I've had some problems also. Guess it is a world wide issue. :-(

Thanks for your kind words Dave.

It is a very nice image. Perhaps the background is a bit strong and does compete somewhat with the subject. This bothers me very little. I like the dark tones and textures in the wood. It is difficult to get a "wow" factor in a still life. It is much harder to do than it seems it would be. I do, though, think that this is a very nice photo.

I appreciate your concerns. I was going to bring some of the texture in toward the bell and phone but I have deleted my photoshop layers. :-( I think I will stay with this as is. Thanks for stoping by eburner.
