Dropped Nikon D4s cracked the body thought it would cost a fortune to repair Nikon only charged me $540 very satisfied. But on the return of the camera I noticed they missed the cracked battery door so I called them and they asked for pictures, no problem thought after they saw pictures they would just send me another battery door for free or charge me I did not care. But no they had to have the camera back, what a waste of time and money for all. Well after calling again & again getting no satisfaction I gave in and sent camera back. Had to wait almost another month to get camera back, once back I see the battery door is a used one scuffs, dust etc. So I start the whole process again, called, sent pictures, and once again have to send camera back to get it fixed. I am sorry but this is the most inefficient system I have every worked with. No D4s to use for another month and we don't even know if they will give me a new door. Its a shame I have so much invested in Nikon over the past 40 years, if they cared about us they would just send me a new door, the worst part of this is they tried to cheat me with a used door they should have notified me of the used door!

That seems the way of so many very large cooperations these days.
It must be their West Coast service Center. I've sent my D6x0 in to their East Coast Center numerous times and have had stellar results, with 10 day turn-arounds.
It's sad but the only way to get satisfaction now-a-days is to "bitch up a storm."
I used to bring my gear into Melville. Service was great and everything was returned in immaculate condition. I recently sent a lens in, not living in NY anymore, and it came back repaired, but externally it was not as clean as I sent it in. When checking online, tracking it, it seems they outsourced it.
If I send anything else, I will request it stay in house.

Yea I agree it makes me want to change to Canon but can't afford that to much invested in Nikon.
Yes it was the West coast service center
With the "new world economy" business now is rush, rush, rush. Hurry, hurry, hurry, "Get her done!" Time is money.
So they figure if it isn't right, they will fix it the second when it comes back. Many customers will just settle for the ineptness and let it go.
Bottom Line is the Almighty Dollar and the fleecing of the consumer!
Well I'm glad I chose Canon over 60 years ago for my System camera(s) I can honestly say I have never had any problems with Canon service and support. GO CANON GO!

Business has always been get er done and time is money. What is different now is, with the current economic conditions and gov. regulations most businesses are trying to operate with a smaller work force because they still need to make a profit. Fewer hands almost always results in lower quality.

I understand but what about the time and postage going back and forth for what is most likely just a Nikon over inflated price of $30 or so

That's the part that usually goes unmentioned when people talk about the state of our economy. Not only are wages down and those who are fortunate enough to still be working, having to do so under increased pressures, but the quality of the end product suffers.

the only person big business cares about is the investor. They are the people they want to keep happy. CUT CUT CUT to save a few bucks to give the investor an extra 3 cents on their investment.
I recently bought a blender, the cord on it was 10 inches long. I wrote the company, thought it was an error, wanting a new one. Nope they made the cord shorter because all counters have outlets close by so extra cord gets in the way, really???? it was because they saved 15 cents per unit im sure...
