My wife and I took a Fall trip to Mackinac Island. The Island has no motorized vehicles except for public safety. Transportation is by horse drawn carriage, bicycle or walking. Visitors come from all across the U.S. to sample locally made fudge as well as to go back in time. Locals refer to visitors as "fudgies" or "trolls"- terms used for those of us who live "under" (south of) the Mackinac Bridge.
Round Island Light
Island Taxis
Pedal Power
Mackinac Bridge from the island
Morning on the Island
Night shot of Main St
Nice pictures, particularly the first two. I was there about 25 years ago, and I'll bet it hasn't changed much.

You're right! Not a lot of changes.
One of my favorite places to go...and stay at the grand next time, if you haven't already.

Thank you for the walk down memory lane.... I was born and raised in the U. P. and have not be on the Island for at least 26 years.... Enjoyed the photos....
The Grand is wonderful but I like the Pink Pony bar in the Chippawa.
Enjoyed the pictures. Mackinac Island has just moved up a few notches on places I want to visit.
It's a great place to visit!!

Very nice shots! My son lives in Ann Arbor and we keep trying to get up to see the Island. It looks beautiful. Maybe this spring.:):)

IMHO, Late May or early June, or in the fall after the kids go back to school is the best time to visit.
Last summer, we watched that Star Line plume cross to the east of the bridge, and wondered what it was, so energetic.
My wife and I found that mid October is the time we like best. If you can go mid week you avoid the crowds and the island hotel prices are cheaper.

Yup. You can get a killer deal on a all the rental bikes to buy the last weekend before the island closes.
