The on/off switch on my Canon dslr has become stiff. Does anyone here know if contact cleaner would help loosen it up?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Be more specific in you topic title. like Question on canon on/off button.

Why, you read it didn't you?
I don't think the contact cleaner would help. In fact may make it worse. I think the problem is that there is some swelling in the plastic that makes the switch stiffer. Cleaner may make it swell even more.

Well, I read it. Don't shoot Canon, so can't help with specifics. In fact, I don't shoot a camera that would have a sticky power switch, so I'm happy there as well.

It helps when other members use the search function. No one puts the word "question" in the search box. They WOULD put in "Canon on off switch". It's just a matter of consideration for others.

But doing so is not nice. It makes people read topics they are not interested in. So except for me trying to answer you nobody was answering your question.
I have had several Canon's from rebels to the 1d series, I have never had this happen. When you find out what it is and how you fixed it will you let us know?
Have you contacted CanonUSA about it?
I would have it checked by Canon and would never use contact cleaner.

Yes and so did I and you wasted my time and your opportunities for information. Perhaps show a little more respect to someone offering advice.

Jimmya, before you result to using any contact cleaner, try positioning your camera whereby the switch is phased downward and then shoot pressurized air around the edges of the opening of the on/off switch. In other words, allow air pressure and gravity do the work for you. More than likely, there is some dirt that has accumulated in and about the switch contact area. If shooting air into/onto the switch first doesn't cure the problem, LIGHTLY tap the switch with an object such as tip on the handle of a kitchen fork or kitchen spoon. Tapping may help dislodge any foreign debris, then, with the switch remaining to be phased downward, shoot the air again. Hopefully, this will work for you because I would hesitate using the contact cleaner.
Meanwhile, your topic "Help" is/was ok with me. Those whom had taken an exception to the topic you have chosen are more than likely upset with their own personal lives than they are upset with your title, ergo; in your situation, you were likely chosen to be the vent for the upset others suffer with their own personal failures.
Meanwhile, give the pressurized air a try and, then, let us all know if it had cured your problem !
Have a great day !
